“We are appealing to the public to stop sharing posts of these fake Facebook accounts. 

These pages are promising to give cars and houses to those who will share their posts through a raffle,” he said. “Do not be deceived.”

Solmenrin explained that such accounts were being used by scammers to get money from unsuspecting Facebook users.

In an exclusive interview with the Manila Bulletin, he said two people from Palawan last month went to the PCSO’s head office to claim the prize they paid for.

“The two residents of Palawan went here. They said that they have deposited money in exchange for the winning combination of PCSO’s Swertres,” Solmerin said.

“The two victims told me that they even sold some of their farm animals just to pay the P5, 000 being asked by the scammer in exchange for the winning combination,” he said. “I explained to them that the Facebook account that they were transacting with is fake and has no affiliation with PCSO.”

PCSO Chairman Jose Jorge Corpuz and the general manager have coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Cybercrime group to track these scammers, Solmerin said.

The chairman and general manager of PCSO want the people behind these scams penalized. 

This is why PNP Cybercrime group was already asked to look into these fake accounts of PCSO on social media.

He said PCSO is also going to contact the local office of Facebook to ask them to shut down fake accounts using PCSO’s name to scam people.

We will reach out to Facebook’s local branch. We ask Facebook to deactivate these fake accounts using the agency’s name,” Solmerin said.
