Why God Sometimes Says “No”

I Found a very beautiful article about faith in God. We always pray to God to help  us with our needs and problems. I know that we  lotto bettors also pray to God to let us win the lotto jackpot so we could end the financial hardship in our lives. But only God knows when he will give those Financial blessings to us.
Try to examine yourselves on why God  sometimes say's NO to us.

Why God Sometimes Says “No”

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17)

We’ve all experienced those occasions when our prayers seem to have gone “unanswered”. Given the many comments in the Bible regarding the Lord hearing our prayers, could there really be such a thing as “unanswered prayer”? While the obvious answer is “no”, why is it that we sometimes ask but don’t receive?
In order to answer this question, let’s first be honest about what we mean by “unanswered prayer”. Basically, when we use this term, we’re not saying God didn’t answer, but rather that His answer was “no”. This leads to another important question (and one that IS answerable), “Why does God sometimes say ‘no’”? Let’s open up the Bible and look at some reasons why the Lord may deny our requests:

Lack of humility – Sometimes we feel that we know what’s best and proceed to tell God what we need. Even worse, we get angry when He doesn’t answer fast enough or in the way that we want. One of my favorite examples of humble prayer is the Syrophoenician woman whose daughter was possessed by a demon (Mark 7:24-30). Trying to help her daughter, the woman fell down at the feet of Jesus and begged for His help. Her posture alone speaks volumes about her mindset. She is approaching Jesus humbly, as a beggar. When the Lord responded to her plea with “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs”, she was not fazed and replied, “Yes Lord, yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs”. She didn’t complain, she wasn’t offended and, more importantly, she didn’t give up. Instead, she continued to ask, humbly trusting in the Lord’s ability to help. The result? Her daughter was healed. What would have happened if the woman took offense and stormed off after the Lord’s initial response?

Lack of faith – When the disciples came to Jesus and asked why they were unsuccessful in casting a demon out of a boy, the Lord’s response was blunt and to the point – “Because of your little faith” (Matthew 17:20)! When we approach Jesus with a request, do we really believe in His power? Maybe, but that can change in a hurry, especially when a sick relative for whom we’re praying starts to take a turn for the worse. How important is faith when we pray? According to Jesus, “whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matthew 21:22). Does that mean that every time God doesn’t grant our request it’s because our faith is lacking? No, but it could be a contributing factor and should be addressed. Before you panic about your weak faith, however, remember that faith is a gift and you can’t increase it on your own. What you can do is ask the Lord to increase your faith, just like the father of the boy with a mute spirit, “I do believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)

Asking for the wrong things – Let’s be honest, sometimes we pray for the wrong things. Even though it may be unintentional, we often ask for things that will increase our comfort and could harm our relationship with the Lord. That new job might pay more money and help us to better provide for our family, but it may require us to work extra hours which could cut into our family time. The increased earnings and security could also cause us to rely less on God, thinking that we are in total control of our lives. Once again, Scripture offers a clear answer to why we sometimes ask, but do not receive – You ask and you do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions (James 4:3).

It may be harmful to us – Sometimes we ask for things that would be harmful to us spiritually. These seemingly “good” things could possibly cause us to lose our salvation. Even though Jesus promised that if we ask, we’ll receive, He never said that we’ll get EXACTLY what we requested. In fact, He assured us that we would not be given anything that is not good for us:

“Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:9-11)

Instead of upsetting us, Jesus’ words should cause us to rejoice and give us confidence to ask for whatever we think we need. Ultimately, we know that the Father will never provide us with something harmful, even if we unwittingly request it!

He has something better in mind – As hard as it is to admit, sometimes we just can’t see the big picture. God always knows what’s best for us and for those around us. He also has a plan for our lives and that often involves doing things that we’d rather not do. Very few people would pray for increased suffering or more crosses in their life. As human beings who have a tendency to avoid pain and suffering, that is perfectly normal. Sometimes, however, doing God’s will involves suffering and even death. I have personally prayed for the physical healing of cancer-stricken relatives who have died. Does that mean that God didn’t answer my prayers? Not at all. He simply said “no” to the physical healing because it wasn’t what was best. One of my favorite and most comforting Bible verses is Romans 8:28 –

We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him.

Not just the good things, but EVERYTHING! Sometimes, my friends, we just have to trust that God knows more than we do. While we should never stop asking, we should be open to His answer. One of the best illustrations of this can be found by looking at Jesus’ prayer on the night before He died. Providing us with a powerful example of how we should pray for our needs, but remain open to God’s response, He used the following words:

“Father, if you are willing, remove this chalice from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)

It’s perfectly acceptable for you to pray that your husband is healed from cancer or that you get that new job, but always be open to God’s Will. He sees the big picture and really does know what’s best. Imitate the example given to us by Jesus and always trust in His providence.

Although it’s difficult to accept, we need to trust that God always has a reason for saying “no” to our requests. He does this out of love and because He “desires all men to be saved” (1 Timothy 2:4). Just like any loving parent, the Lord will sometimes say “no” because it really is what’s best for us. We may not get it now, but someday we’ll thank Him!

A retired male government employee from San Andres Bukid in Manila and a household helper of Paete, Laguna, shared the  Sept. 29,2012  6/42 lotto draw with  P51-million lotto jackpot.

A 40-year-old household helper from Paete, Laguna, claimed her share of the lotto jackpot last October 10, 2012.

The lotto winner and her husband only finished Grade 1 and they have five children..

The winner said she will deposit her winnings in a bank and save it for her five children's education.

Her winning combination was based on the birthdates of her children and husband. (4-9-10-15-21-23)

The woman has been relying on faith, as she started betting on the national lottery only a year ago.

She would tuck the lotto ticket in a Bible and then pray.

The retired male government employee claimed  his share last October 2,2012.

Being a lotto jackpot winner is not a dream come true to all jackpot winners.

Stories about jackpot winners who "wished they have torn up the ticket." could be now understood why they have said those statements.

Death by being a lotto winner

Amanda Clayton was not your typical millionaire. In her short life, she won a million dollar lottery in Michigan, was convicted of collecting state welfare money after she got the million dollars and embroiled in a plethora of drama and legal battles.

Now she is dead at age 25, of a possible drug overdose.
She lived a troubled life. Getting the lottery money added rocket fuel to her problems.

Like so many lottery losers, Amanda made the first big mistake when she won the lottery: She let the world know she won.

Thus, Amanda would have been better off to quietly take her winnings, but it didn't work out that way.
If you go online, you can find a happy and attractive Amanda from September of last year. She was smiling, holding a huge million dollar check from the Michigan Lottery.

Now she is in a coffin, holding a lily. For eternity. To me, the big check and lily are correlated.
Telling the world that you have money that you never expected to have is asking for trouble.
it seemed like Amanda had a ton of newfound "friends." All wanting to take advantage of her.

The food stamp and public assistance office.

According to the Detroit News, Clayton plead no contest to fraud in June after state prosecutors accused her of receiving $5500 in food and medical benefits after she won the lottery.

Millionaires are not supposed to collect food stamps. If Amanda had tried to rip off the government as a Wall Street banker, her crime would been ignored and she probably would have received a government bailout.

She got nine months probation instead. She wound up not staying alive until the end of her sentence.
It's sad to see a 25-year-old throw their life away. I'm not sure that winning the lottery was the source of her problems, but I see it happen too many times.

People who win the lottery lose perspective on normal things in life. They start to think that rules don't apply to them.

It's been said that roughly 90 percent of people who win the lottery will run through it in five years or less.

The death of a troubled Michigan lotto winner was likely the result of a drug overdose. Amanda Clayton made national headlines when she was busted for continuing to collect food stamps after winning the Michigan Lottery

Sadly, Amanda Clayton, 25, was found dead in her home in Ecorse. She died of a suspected drug overdose. What a tragic end to somebody who seemed to have recently had a reversal of fortune after winning the "Make Me Rich!" lottery.

She did get in trouble over failing to report her winnings and staying on public assistance, and she had to repay $5,500 in fraudulent benefits she received after winning the $1 million.

Clayton's official cause of death is pending toxicology reports. Police have not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding her death either.

While Amanda Clayton continuing to collect public assistance after winning such a large sum of money angered many people in America.

It is truly sad that the young woman is now dead so soon after winning the lottery. Of course, this tragedy adds some credence to the idea that winning the lottery does not necessarily make a person's life any better.

Many lottery winners end up worse off after their lucky windfall.

While surfing the net  for some lotto news. I found another unbelievable story about a lucky Norwegian Family.

First winner was the Father then the daugther and now the son.

Teenager becomes third member of his Family to win Norwegian National lottery

A teenager has become the third member of his family to hit the jackpot when he won 12.2 million kroner (£1.3million) in the Norwegian National Lottery.

The family of Tord Oksnes, 19, hit the headlines three years ago when his sister scooped an 8.2-million kroner (£880,000) bonanza.

It followed her father's good fortune three years before that when a lottery win made him 8.4 million kroner (£900,000) richer.

Roar Jødahl, a spokesman for lottery operator Norsk Tipping, said he was amazed at the family's improbable triple triumph.

He told the newspaper Bergens Tidende: 'I remember well the story of his sister winning after her father had won before.
'With her brother now winning, I have to pinch myself in the arm.'

Over the years, the Lottery has seen some curious coincidences, he added.
'We've had occasions where people have won twice,  and different examples of couples who live together each winning.

'But this has to be unique and just goes to show that anything is possible.'

Keeping his feet firmly on the ground, Tord Oksnes said he no plans to quit his trainee position with a local energy firm in his home town of Austevoll.

He was even reluctant to take a day off to celebrate.

'I actually have a bit of a guilty conscience about winning so much money. I'm sure there's somebody who could have done with the money more than me,' he told Bergens Tidende.

Oksnes added that he had no plans to leave the family home and would continue driving his 11-year-old car for as long as it remained roadworthy.

He did however plan to invest in an apartment, which he said he would rent out for a few years until he was ready to move away from his mother.

Draw date: 9/20/2012
11-12-17-22-23 43
Jackpot Prize  P102,728,466.00

1 lucky winner for 6/49 draw.

A lucky player from Lipa City in Batangas won the  P102,728,466.00  million jackpot of the 6/49 Super Lotto online lottery draw last Thursday. (Sept 21,2012)

40 players won the second prize worth P56,000 each after they picked five digits of the six-digit winning number combination.

The two lucky winners of  6/55 have already claimed their prizes.

The two winners split the total prize pot of P299,897,496.00, or P149,948,748.00 each

The first to claim was a tricycle driver from Bataan.

The driver bought his lotto ticket in Bataan, using a combination of his age, his wife’s age and their children’s birthdays.

The second winner, a 76-year-old female retiree from Southern Leyte paid  P120 for 6 combinations.

The winner also used her family's birthdays as the number combination for the winning bet.

Three in a row for 6/55

After the big jackpot of almost  P300 million with two winners, two more draws of 6/55 were won again by lone bettors.

Believe it or not ....... only in the Philippines.

The Grand Lotto jackpot, which had reverted back to the minimum guaranteed amount of P30 million, was won again at the following draw on Sept. 15. The solo winner a 58-year-old housewife was once again from Bataan.

The winning combination  4-11-15-17-43-45  had been her “pet” combination since she started betting in 2008.

No sooner had the dust settled when the Grand Lotto jackpot prize, still at the P30-million minimum, was won again in the next draw on September 17.

The 62-year-old solo winner was again a retiree, this time from Batangas. He had been betting since 1995, but he drew up the winning combination of 8-14-24-26-28-47  randomly.

While surfing the net, I found a interesting sad story about a lotto winner who was murdered by their Accountant friend because of  being wasteful with money.  As the saying goes, money kills.

Accountant jailed for murdering lotto winner.

A central coast accountant who murdered his lottery winning friend because she was being "wasteful" with the money has been sentenced to a maximum of 18 years in jail.

Peter Joseph Kelly, 56, had known Maria Lou Devrell and her husband David for nearly 20 years before murdering her on March 28 last year.

When Mr Devrell won $5 million in Oz Lotto in 1999, he entrusted his friend with managing the money.

But tension soon developed between Kelly and Mrs Devrell over her spending habits, with the former repeatedly warning her that her spending was unsustainable.
This tension came to a head in March last year when, during an argument at Mrs Devrell's Tamworth home, she allegedly pushed him when he refused to give her more money.

Kelly, who later told police he "saw crimson", got a heavy rubber mallet from his car, wrapped it in plastic wrapping and beat Mrs Devrell over the head.

He then used his hand to cover the woman's mouth, strangling her to death.

Mrs Devrell's young daughter found her some hours later lying in a pool of blood.

Kelly pleaded guilty five months later.

In the NSW Supreme Court today, Justice Robert Hulme said he rejected Kelly's argument that he had not intended to kill and had been provoked.

"The offender took the deceased's purse to make it look like a robbery gone wrong," he said.

"That is in keeping with a logical train of thinking, not a loss of control."

However, he accepted that Kelly's actions were an "uncharacteristic aberration in an otherwise blameless life of a good man".

Kelly stood motionless as he was sentenced to a maximum of 18 years jail with a minimum of 13 years.

He will be eligible for parole in October 2024.

Two bettors split P300 million lotto jackpot

They will equally receive  P149,948,748.00 each.

The biggest jackpot prize in the history of the PCSO online lotto draw was more than P741 million that a balikbayan from New York won after he bought the winning ticket at a lotto outlet in Olongapo City in November 2010.

Do you want to be a millionaire?

Many people do. They dream about mansions, expensive SUV,  android cellphones,  laptops, iPhone, tablets etc.
The sad truth is that winning the lottery isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
One day someone is an average Juan de la cruz, and the next morning they are a millionaire.
The pressure and potential are just too much for some people.
Stories in other Countries of lotto winners going to jail, going bankrupt, broken families, drugs, etc. and regretting that they have won.

I found a very interesting story about a husband and wife lotto winners who are a unwillingly or  a reluctant lotto winners or maybe this couple just wanted to make sure about their lives that nothing bad will happen to them.

Have you ever heard of a “reluctant” millionaire? Neither have I! But while some people strive to be rich, or will die tryin’, there are two lottery winners who weren’t in such a hurry.
They actually held off collecting their millions because they were “reluctant” about being rich.

The Mega Millions numbers were drawn on Aug. 20, 2010, and there was a winning ticket sold in North Carolina. Raleigh Hill discovered he was blessed with being the owner of that winning ticket but he delayed claiming the proceeds from the million-dollar win.

He didn’t even tell his wife about it until several weeks after realizing his ticket was a winner!
So why the delayed gratification you ask?

Well, it certainly wasn’t because they were already rich. Raleigh, who bought the ticket, is a baggage handler, and his wife Erin works for the federal government.  Average everyday middle-class Americans.
Raleigh was so fearful of all “the hoopla,” that he sat on that information and kept it all to himself. And then one day, when Erin was fretting about having an awful day, he let her in on his secret.

And yet they still both decided to wait… for 6 whole months before claiming the dough. Stashing the lucrative ticket away in safe places like inside a Bible, a shoebox, an envelope and a work locker.

The Hills finally came forward , ONE DAY before the prize was to expire. They split the prize money and each received a lump sum of $340,000 (P14 million each) after taxes.

Apparently the couple was haunted by a sense of unease over the many stories they’d heard about lottery winnings destroying lives and relationships. And can you blame them?

I know you remember that story about Abraham Shakespeare….the lottery winner who was found buried in concrete?

There have been story after story about “the lottery curse” and several previous winners have wished they could give it all back.

I think the Hills were smart in waiting and investigating their options. Considering Biggie’s “More Money More Problems” theory.

It would be wise to consider all the factors prior to claiming any big win.
