lotto winner gives away 562 million Pesos

I found this story very interesting because this winning couple understand that their are more things important than money.

An elderly couple who won around $11,255,272 million ( X 50 pesos ) from a lottery ticket in Canada have given the money away to good causes and family.

Violet and Allen Large, who live in rural Nova Scotia, decided they had no need for the money and, four months after the Lotto 6-49 win, have given virtually all of it to churches, animal charities, hospitals and other groups.

"What you've never had, you never miss," Violet Large, 78, who is recovering from cancer. "We have an old house, but we're comfortable and we're happy in it."

"It made us feel good," she said about giving the money away. "And there’s so much good being done with that money."

Allen Large was a steel welder and his wife worked for cosmetics and chocolate companies during 30 years when they lived in Ontario. Married since 1974, they moved to Lower Truro in Nova Scotia in 1983.
They were pretty well set, not millionaires, but comfortable.

He described the lottery win as "a big headache," while his wife was concerned about "crooked people" who might try to exploit them.

'We have each other'
"That money that we won was nothing — we have each other," Allen Large told the newspaper, which said he choked back tears as he spoke.

The Chronicle-Herald said after giving some money to family, the couple made donations to various good causes such as:

* the local fire department;
* churches;
* cemeteries;
* the Red Cross;
* the Salvation Army;
* hospitals in Truro and Halifax that treated Violet Large for cancer;
* and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer's disease and diabetes.

"We're the lucky ones. I have no complaints," Violet Allen said.

The Globe and Mail newspaper said the couple lived in a 19th century home and drove a 13-year-old car and a five-year-old truck. They don't have a microwave and are even without voicemail.

'We're not high-class people'
The news has already sparked headlines as far away as the U.K., but Violet Large said they had not given away the money for fame.

"We didn’t do it to get recognized. Why spend money when you already have everything you need?" she told the Globe and Mail Thursday.

"We haven't spent even one penny on ourself. We're not travelers and we're not high-class people," she added.

Her husband said they had "a little bit left, not that much."

"But we had sufficient before. We worked for 30 years and put some away each year," he added, according to the Globe and Mail.

The Toronto Star reported that the news of the couple's generosity was the talk of the town.

"People who know them just know that's the type of people they are — they're just happy to have each other," Lori Hingley, owner of the Shillelagh House restaurant in Lower Truro, told the paper.

"I think people are wondering why they didn't keep any and treat themselves, but mostly people just think it's great how generous they were," she added.

How Filipino lotto winners claimed their millions

MANILA, Philippines - Lotto winners faces tough security check at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) before he could claim his prize.

Before he can enter the new PCSO office at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), he has to register his name and state the purpose of his visit at the guard station.

If he is a prizewinner, he will be asked if he won a minor or a major prize, information that some winners do not want to disclose.

His ticket will then be verified for the winning combination. If the winnings are confirmed, he will be issued a check within two hours.

As policy of the PCSO management, his identity will not be disclosed but will be recorded in the logbook of the PICC and in the CCTV cameras in the compound.

Hitting the lotto jackpot can be both life changing and taxing to the winner, security-wise. Because of this, some winners take some time to claim their prize.

A PCSO source disclosed that the winner of the P201 million Super Lotto jackpot last February carefully planned the claiming of his instant wealth and its expenditure.

The winner of the P210,473,805.60 jackpot prize, waited three months before claiming his prize.

The source said that he first went to the PCSO office along E. Rodriguez Avenue to observe the building. Deciding that claiming the prize so soon may endanger his life, he transferred his family to another residence and went on a mountain climbing retreat to ponder on how to deal with his fortune.

After three months, he surfaced at the PCSO office wearing a wig and large sunglasses.

“He was so cool, he did not create any waves, he presented his winning ticket and upon verification he got the check for his winnings,” the source said.

The winner casually walked out of the PCSO office. That was the last they saw of him.

The source also disclosed that in 2008, a 61-year-old construction worker from Novaliches claimed his P249- million jackpot after a weeklong stakeout at the PCSO compound.

On the first day of his surveillance, the winner pretended to seek medical assistance. After observing the procedures at the compound, he and a niece went directly to the office of the chairman to claim his winnings.

Filipino lotto winner tells his sad story

THE P741-million Grand Lotto 6/55 jackpot prize has already been claimed Thursday afternoon by a 60-year-old male Balikbayan.

The Balikbayan from New York had also confirmed that he bought the winning ticket at a lotto outlet in Royal Duty Free Mall in Olongapo City.

The lucky bettor was accompanied by his three relatives.

He also requested the agency to divide the prize into two checks.

The winner arrived in the country on November 8 together with his wife and three children to attend a reunion.

On Tuesday, an 82-year-old woman tried to claim the jackpot prize but she failed to present the winning ticket.

She said she asked her grandchild to buy 5 tickets. Her grandchild turned over 4 tickets, but didn't return the one that won the jackpot.

The old woman reportedly asked PCSO not to give the prize to her grandchild, who has not shown up and may have gone into hiding. Well lets wait for this story on how it will end.

A tricycle driver from Tanay, Rizal and a jeepney driver from Taguig got more than P2-million jackpot each for the 6/45 Mega Lotto draws last Dec. 1 draw and the Dec. 4 draw.

This reminds me of my previous article that's says even one bet will do.
The 32-year-old tricycle driver bought only two tickets worth P20 , one with the lucky pick numbers chosen by the computer and the other his own set of numbers.

We all dream of hitting the big one, or wish that we could fall into instant riches by simply choosing the right winning lotto numbers or allowing them to be randomly generated from a computerized lotto machine onto
a little piece of paper,just like the Olongapo lotto jackpot winner.

But it has often been said that we should be very careful about what we wish for as everything comes with a price.

The actual chances of becoming a lotto winner are astronomical to begin with, but when fate intervenes, miraculous things can happen that will forever change a person’s life, for better or worse.

A Lotto winner who won P82 million in 2004 is now experiencing financial troubles.
Christian Tongol from Pampanga won P82 million in the lottery in 2004, but now he sometimes finds himself short on cash.

After winning big, he was able to buy six houses and three vehicles, embark on several business ventures, give his family property, help out people in need, and fund the construction of a barangay church and basketball court.

However, one misfortune after another befell him. Three family members--his father, father in law and sibling--were hospitalized for long periods of time before they passed away. Tongol himself was also involved in an accident.

Now, only a house in Pampanga, a motorcycle, and a fishpond are all that's left of the Tongols' posessions. Sometimes, their earnings are not enough for their daily needs.

Today he confesses there are times he struggles to keep up with his obligations.

Lucky pick wins P741.156m

A lone bettor who defied a one-to-29 million chance of winning and grabbed the P741,176,323.20 jackpot, the highest in the country's on-lottery games
after the 86th draw of Grand Lotto

The punter, one of the scores of millions who placed their bets Monday, will now go down in the record books as the bettor who defied near impossible odds to win the richest prize ever in PCSO on-line lotteries.

53 bettors guessed five numbers correctly and will get P150,000 each, 3,967 have four correct numbers for P2,000 prize each, and 99,541 got three right numbers for P150 each.

The luckiest person who won the biggest jackpot in the history of the Philippine lotto placed the winning bet in Olongapo City.

The lone winner bought the winning ticket inside the lone lotto outlet inside the Subic Bay Freeport. it was a "lucky pick" or was randomly picked by the computer.

For the past 86 draws you feel so excited on every draw. You never missed to bet because you have to be consistent in your bets just to make sure chances are you might hit the jackpot.

But the smoke has been cleared and 1 lotto bettor made it. I know you still have a hangover on it because you didn't hit the jackpot and it will take at least few more days just to get over it. And 6 more months just to reach that kind of jackpot prize again.

And yet...how many dreams have you had - how many
important Plans have you set?
Does it frustrate you? Make you sad?

Maybe even a little angry because you've worked so hard. You have use all your formulas all the computations and maybe all ways just to come up with a good combination's of numbers but still failed and you still haven't won the jackpot.

It is because we cannot force God to let our lotto numbers come out anytime we want. We should let God on its own time, let our lotto numbers come out.

All lotto Jackpot winners have realized this when they won the Jackpot. They waited for it. So you have to wait for it too. And your time will come. Anytime now, just believe on it and it will come, believe me.

Everyone has a chance to win. Every bettor has a chance of winning. It’s a game of
chance. The most important thing is just be consistent only in your bet.
Your chance of winning is just as good as anyone else.

Remember the chance of the lotto Jackpot winner from Olongapo city and your chance of winning the lotto jackpot was just the same, except that He or She was more luckier than us.
