 Prayers are powerful

There was a man who went to his Rabbi for advice on how he could win the state lottery. He was in dire need of money and that windfall was in necessity to him. The Rabbi gave him some advice and told him to start praying once a day.

The man went home and followed the advice. Ten years later he had still not won the lottery. He went back to the Rabbi and this time the Rabbi told him to pray twice a day. The man went home and followed the advice and another ten years went by and he still hadn't won the lottery.

Once again, he returned to the Rabbi and in desperation he promised to do anything to win. The Rabbi, a bit puzzled himself, advised him to pray three times a day. The man returned home and began to pray fervently three times a day, awakening the angels in heaven who in response to these heartfelt words of pleading by this human being beseech God to help this poor man.

God looks at his angels and He Himself looked quite sad as he said, "I wish I could fulfill his request as he is definitely deserving; if only he would go out and buy a lottery ticket!"

If you really want to win the lotto jackpot, all you have to do is do your part and God will do the rest.

While searching for a lotto news. I found a sad story about a family who won a lotto jackpot .

This story could be a man's greed for money and a lesson to be learned just in case you hit the lotto jackpot.

California Lottery Winner Sues Son for Commandeering Winnings

It's been almost a year to the day since Ronnie Lee Orender and his mom Etta May Urquhart beamed before cameras and accepted a lump sum of $32.3 million — their take before taxes from a $51 million winning lottery ticket

And it's been almost a year since the Urquhart and her husband Bob have seen any of the money. Instead, they claim in a lawsuit filed April 23 in Kern Superior Court in Bakersfield, Calif., that Etta May's son Ronnie Lee Orender commandeered the winning Mega Millions ticket, leaving his parents with walking-around money while he took the lion's share of the cash.

The court papers claim Orender bought 10 cars and four homes and put millions into accounts that the Urquhart's are not allowed to touch. Etta May, 76, and Bob, 79, also sued Bancorp Bank and Moneywise, SEI Investment Management, and SEI Investment Co., where they say their son invested the money. They are seeking $32.3 million, in addition to punitive damages.

According to the complaint, Etta May has been buying lottery tickets for 18 years. In her declaration, she noted that her son was not supportive of her weekly ticket purchases. "He discouraged me from playing and told me it was a waste of my money," she said.

Still, when she discovered that she had a winning ticket, her son was all too happy to go with her and her husband to the gas station where she bought it to claim the prize, she said in the filing. Lottery officials were already there, and the family was told that they needed to sign the ticket.

But Etta May was so emotional that she couldn't hold a pen, and so her son signed the ticket. Instead of writing his mom's name, he signed his own, she said. Etta May was overwhelmed with all the press attention she was getting, and so her son "suggested that Etta May tell others that she bought the ticket for Orender," the complaint stated.

He also told his mother that he would handle the money on her behalf. She said she trusted him, and agreed to tell others that she had bought the ticket for him, not herself.

Over time, however, she grew frustrated with the financial situation, and fought with her son about the money. According to Etta May, she has only received a Lincoln SUV, about $125,000 in cash and payments for miscellaneous items like a cell phone and gardener. She was also given a house to live in, although she does not own it.

Her son though bought four houses in Bakersfield, at least 10 vehicles—including a Ford Fusion, GMC SUV, and Evinrude boat--and made cash gifts of $350,000.
"Ronnie Orender is my son, and I lived with him for 18 years," she said in her declaration. "I know Ronnie Orender does not have any means to make the purchased or gifts described…with any monies other than those received from my lottery winnings."

When she finally told her son she wanted to be in charge of her cash, he refused, she alleged.
"For me, as a lawyer, I think all it takes is talking to Etta May for two minutes and it's pretty easy to see she's telling the truth and there's no question about what happened," her lawyer, Barry Goldner, told ABC News, adding that Judge Sidney P. Chapin issued temporary protective orders against Orender, his trust, and all of the financial institutions, freezing the assets.

Goldner said he has not heard from Orender yet. "But I can tell you that Etta May went to the same Mobil station twice a week for 18 years to buy lottery tickets, and amazingly, she won $51 million dollars," he said. "And somewhere between having the winning ticket and collecting the money, all of the money ended up with the son."

While searching for a lotto news. I found a sad story about a lotto winner way back 1997 who lost it all.

This kind of story always reminds me, if winning a lotto jackpot is a blessing or a curse ?

By the way today is Friday the 13th.

Sad story of a lotto winner.

When Lawrence Candlish won £5.5 million (US$8.8 million) playing the National Lottery in 1997 it promised to make his dreams come true, including buying himself the double hip replacement he needed.

The generous factory worker immediately shared his fortune with his many relatives, shelling out £370,000 (US$590,000) to buy seven houses in the same street in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear so that they could be close together.

Eventually he moved with his family to Benidorm on Spain's Costa Blanca to make a new life.

But now the 36-year-old Newcastle United fan is back in England and admits he has "blown the lot."

The penniless Geordie's Spanish villa has been seized by the bank and he has abandoned his Irish-themed pub.

His sister has also lost her Spanish home and his mother's may follow. It is reported that Lawrence, 36, was so broke he had to borrow his taxi fare to the airport.

Since the hard-drinking Geordie's win, which put him at 61 on the Sunday Times rich list, fortune has not been kind to him.

His best friend died, and in 2000 he and his family fled Tyneside after thugs torched his house and his sister's car.

Then, in 2009, his beloved father was found hanged in the home his son bought him.

A lone bettor who placed a bet in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City won the P81,871,455.60 Super Lotto 6/49 jackpot last March 25.

After 2 weeks, the March 25 draw for the Super Lotto 6/49, remains unclaimed by the lone lucky bettor.

The winner has yet to show up to claim the P81.9-million jackpot money.

One more chance ...

Dionie C. Reyes, the government employee who spent all his lotto winnings of over P14 million in just three months in 2008, is back in the long betting line praying for a second chance at the jackpot.

At 47, Reyes has no regrets over squandering most of his money on vices – gambling, nightly drinking sprees, and womanizing – but that one more chance to win a lotto jackpot will be different.

He knows what to do with the money the next time around.

“That is why I am saying that if God blessed me again and gives me a second chance, because I am betting every day, I will love my money. Anyway, I have experienced it already,” said Reyes, referring to living the life of a millionaire with the freedom to spend without limits.

Reyes said after claiming his money at the PCSO, he took a three-month vacation.

When he reported again to the office, he didn’t have any more money.

He was thankful to his immediate boss who advised him not to resign.
